Absolutely amazing! My husband says it’s by far the best dinner I’ve made…but maybe it was all the queso 🙂
Watch How To Make A Crunchwrap
Like Taco Bell, But At Home (And Better)

I have a new obsession and YOU ARE LOOKING AT IT.
Its name is a crunchwrap and it’s all wrapped up in a huge soft flour tortilla and pan-fried until it’s crispy on the outside and gooey-delicious on the inside.
The thing about a crunchwrap is that it doesn’t need to be bossy in the flavor department. I found the basic-taco-salad-ness of the flavors to be deliciously nostalgic and yummy, and besides, the main event here is the way it’s all structured. Its form. Its layers. Its texture. That is what will have you daydreaming at 3pm. The juicy drips, the gooey-ness, the crunch. Feels like peak humanity, tastes like sheer joy.
Crunchwrap has become a verb in my life. “Should we Crunchwrap that?” is a real sentence that I say. I have Crunchwrapped sweet potato, black beans, taco meat, queso, Hot Cheetos (do it), tortilla chips, avocado, and more. I am proudly becoming a Crunchwrap Master.
Anything you would put in a taco salad? Crunchwrap the heck outta that.

How To Make Crunchwraps At Home
1
Make the Taco Meat.
Onion, garlic, beef, taco seasoning. The classics!

2
Make Nacho Cheese Sauce.
Make a roux with butter, flour, and milk, then add pepper jack cheese.

3
Layer Tostada.
Taco meat, cheese sauce, tostada, sour cream, salsa, tomatoes, lettuce, cilantro, tortilla round.

4
Fold Up Your Crunchwrap.
Fold all the edges in on your tortilla until it makes a cute little handheld package.

5
Fry In A Pan.
Heat a little oil in a pan and brown the Crunchwrap on both sides. Voilá! You’re done.

Crunchwrap Supreme: Frequently Asked Questions
Keep your filling amounts minimal. It is very common to run into the issue of overflow, in which case, you can a) reduce filling amounts, b) fold it up as-is and hope for the best – I found even half-closed crunchwraps still grilled up nicely, c) break your tostadas into smaller pieces to allow you more space, or d) make a MEGA CRUNCHWRAP. See next FAQ.
Cut a few of the large flour tortillas so they are the same size as your tostadas. Then, once you’ve layered all ingredients, just place a small flour cutout tortilla on top and fold edges over that. This should buy you a little extra space for filling.

Crunchwrap Supreme
- Total Time: 35 minutes
- Yield: should be enough filling for 6-8 crunchwraps
Description
Just like the Crunchwrap Supreme from Taco Bell – layers of taco meat, pepper jack queso, tostada, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, salsa, and hot sauce. SO YUM.
Ingredients
Spicy Ground Beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- half an onion, minced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning (add about 1 teaspoon salt if it’s unsalted)
Pepperjack Nacho Cheese Sauce:
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 4 tablespoons flour
- 1 cup milk
- 8 ounces shredded Pepperjack cheese
Crunchwrap Extras (customize to your heart’s desire):
- large flour tortillas (burrito size)
- something crunchy: tostada shells work really well, but tortilla chips or, dare I say, Doritos (!!) would work, too
- lettuce, tomato, cilantro
- sour cream
- salsa
- refried beans
- guacamole
Instructions
- Spicy Ground Beef: Heat the oil over medium heat in a large nonstick skillet. Add onion, garlic, and beef. Cook / break apart until the beef is browned all the way through. Add taco seasoning and salt.
- Queso: Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Add the flour and whisk until smooth. Let the flour cook for a minute or two, then slowly add in the milk, whisking after each addition. When the sauce is smooth, remove from heat. Stir in the cheese. Season to taste.
- Crunch Wrap Time: Lay a large tortilla on a flat surface. Layer: beef, queso, crunchy stuff, sour cream, salsa / hot sauce, tomato, lettuce, cilantro. Fold the edges of the tortilla in. Place in a hot oiled skillet. Cook for a few minutes on each side until the exterior is firm, crunchy, and golden brown. Cut and serve! I like a little mashed avocado and hot sauce on top.

This is the kind of writing that makes you feel a Crunchwrap before you even taste it.
Disaster! Sauce came out like yellow flour paste, dud not hold together in the pan. I will save the trouble and go to taco bell next time, totally not worth the effort.
Used a different cheese since I didn’t have pepper jack, plus one kid can detect spice a mile away. Overall was easy, quick, and tasty! So a definite win in my book for a busy weeknight meal.
Cheese sauce recipe did not work for me, followed it exactly
Cut the butter and flour by half and use a 1-1/2 cups of milk to make your queso more saucy and less pasty. Or you can skip the roux entirely and melt some velveeta to use as the sauce base, then add in your pepper jack and add a little bit of milk or cream until you get your desired consistency.
DUUUDE.
That’s my comment.
These are fantastic.
We just made the Crunchwrap Supreme and it was a massive hit in our house. Even the little one couldn’t stop eating it. Loved every bite. Thank you!
I like this recipe
An extremely delicious and eye-catching dish I tried to follow this dish and surprisingly it succeeded beyond my expectations.
This is BEYOND yummy. Made it with Impossible Sausage, and it was amazing. Served black bean soup on the side! Thank you so much!
Love this and all your vegan recipes! Thank you!
I’m going to try this.
Made this for my daughter and her children last night. All of us LOVED it! Ages 3-73, one very picky eater. Requests for a repeat of this very easy meal. We had a tendency to overfill the packet which made grilling them a challenge. Still wonderful!
We don’t have a Taco Bell in the area, there’s only like five in my country anyway haha, but I’ve always wanted to try a Crunchwrap after seeing it online. Tried your recipe with my boyfriend last week and it was both super fun to make and absolutely delicious! We had leftover tortillas and tostadas so we’re making another one this week too! 🙈😸
That’s awesome! So glad you both enjoyed it!
very delicious! highly recommend!! but the cheese sauce did not work out for me. next time i will buy a jar at the store
This is just amazing! Such a fun way to switch up our usual taco or burrito night. I would have never thought to make this at home, but it is just perfect. I love that the ingredients are so simple and the tortilla cut out trick to help with the folding. Will definitely be making again. Thank you! I might try to make my sauce a little bit thinner next time around. Delicious, and so many possibilities!
Loved this! Question- I had a lot of queso left over, how do I store it?
Hi Tatiana! We’d store in the fridge in an airtight container.
amazing!!!! enjoyed by the entire family
Yay! Glad to hear it, Estelle!
This was delicious! My husband is a fan of Taco Bell’s version, so he was in heaven! Thanks for the recipe. I made it with Doritos. I also appreciated the tip in the comments to fry them seam side down. Thanks again!
Doritos in these = YUM!
A recipe that looks like more time-consuming than it actually is. My family loves this one. Thanks for another winner!
Another 5 star recipe! I highly recommend breaking the tostada into smaller pieces – I found even with the bigger tortillas, it kept falling apart without breaking them up first. Thank you for this deliciousness!
Thanks for the tip, Sonali!
Excellent idea with the Doritos instead of the tostadas. Even the new Flamin’ Doritos! We love spicy!
And why cut the large tortilla? Just use the tostada and more chips along the edge to compensate! And Taco Bell Fire sauce. I always have a handy bottle of it on the fridge door.
Thanks!
Enjoy, Gary!
Tried it and it came out delicious. Family loved it.
These were a lot easier to make than I thought they might be (thanks for the video, it was very helpful!). The one thing I did differently was instead of putting the crunch wrap in a skillet, I put them on a panini press! It worked perfectly!
A panini press! Great idea!
